9/50: The Spirit Ring by Lois McMaster Bujold: I'll admit it, this took me a long time to read. I liked it, but I was tired, busy, etc. I think I should have read this a long time ago because it doen't hold up well in comparison to her Chalion books, nor to her later Vorkosigan novels. But I loved the Italian setting- I don't know if I've ever read a fantasy book set in Italy before. I liked the magic system too, but I think her Chalion Universe is more fleshed out as far as world-building goes. The characters were pretty good, but I wasn't as impressed with the female characters as I have been in her other books. The romantic element was just okay for me. ( spoilers )
10/50: Solstice Wood by Patricia A. McKillip: I had the same reaction to this that I had to two of McKillip's other books. I liked it but it wasn't anything spectacular. I actually liked the non-fantasy aspects of it a lot better than the fairy-tale quality. ( spoilers )
I probably should have read the book Winter Rose first since it is this book's predecessor. I don't know if I missed out on much by reading them out of order or not. But I will read Winter Rose sometime soon, now that I have it.
11/50: Fullmetal Alchemist Vol. 5 by Hiromu Arakawa: I don't know why, but I can't seem to find the words when I try to write about manga. I know I have a problem writing about books I love, but I can go on and on about why I hated something. ;-) Since I've loved all of the manga I've read except for Sailor Moon Vol. 1, the words are difficult. I like that there are significant differences between the Fullmetal manga and the anime because it keeps me in suspense a bit while I read. I like when Winry is around because I love her interactions with Ed and Al.
